Love is complicated.
Your relationship doesn’t have to stay stuck.
Couples Therapy & Relationship Counseling in-person in Rochester, NY and online throughout NY, MA & RI.
The problem isn’t always what you are fighting about.
IT’S WHAT KEEPS HAPPENING BETWEEN YOU.
One of you reaches connection and the other pulls away. One criticizes and the other gets defensives and shut down. Before you know it, you’re having the same argument again. Over time, these patterns leave you both feeling alone, misunderstood, and disconnected.
Before you know it, you keep having the same argument on repeat.
And while you might be arguing about money, sex, parenting, or whose turn it is do the dishes, there is more that is happening underneath the surface.
That’s where our work begins.
Hi, I’m Sarah.
I’m a relationship and trauma therapist who works with couples navigating complicated, messy, and the painful parts of what it means to love another person.
I believe relationships have a way of being our most vulnerable parts to the surface, including our fears, defenses and longing to be seen and understood.
I’m interested in understanding more about how you get here, what keeps you stuck, and the changes you are looking to make. My approach is compassionate, direct, and warm.
I help you see the possibilities in your relationship when you think there are none.
I don’t shy away from intensity, difficult conversations, or complex histories. I don’t believe couples therapy should be another place where you have the same argument without doing something different-which I’ll help you.
The complicated parts of love.

Collective Excellence
Sometimes the relationship needs more than couples therapy.
AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO RELATIONAL HEALING
You can’t separate the relational from the individual. Sometimes the difficulties between partners are connected to trauma, addiction, attachment wounding, or individual experiences that need their own attention.
For couples seeking a more comprehensive approach, I offer a collaborative relational therapy program. Each partner works with an individual therapist while participating in joint sessions with both therapists.
It’s a different way of working with relationships. One that makes room for the complexity of both of both of you.
